Properties, Applications and Production Processes of Guaiazulene
Product Applications
Guaiazulene exerts anti-inflammatory effects and facilitates the regeneration of granulation tissue, accelerating the healing of burn and scald wounds. It also delivers heat protection, radiation resistance and anti-chapping properties. It is clinically applied for the treatment of burns, scalds, skin chaps, chilblains, eczema and dermatitis, as well as for the prevention of damage induced by high-heat radiation.
Chemical Properties
It exists as blue crystals or viscous liquid. Upon exposure to light, its color shifts from blue to green and ultimately to yellow. Insoluble in water, sparingly soluble in ethanol, and soluble in chloroform, diethyl et her, vegetable oils and volatile oils.
Biological Activity
Guaiazulene (also named Azulon, Vetivazulen) is a bicyclic sesquiterpene and constitutes an ingredient of several essential oils.
